But Sarah wasn’t my enemy.
If she knew the truth, that was one thing.
If she didn’t, she was about to marry the same liar I had almost married.
I slowly made my way toward her then.
Colleen followed me.
“Meredith, don’t.”
Sarah looked up.
“Can I help you?”
“I’m the florist.”
She smiled faintly.
“Las flores son hermosas”.
“Gracias”.
“Antes de caminar por ese pasillo, hay algo que necesitas saber”.
Her smile disappeared.
Colleen whispered my name.
I ignored her.
Sarah glanced between us.
“¿De qué estás hablando?”
I told her.
No en voz alta.
No dramáticamente.
Le dije que Adrian me lo había estado teniendo tres meses antes.
I told her about the accident.
Le conté lo del ataúd cerrado.
I told her that I had attended his funeral.
Sarah stared at me.
“That’s impossible.”
“I wish it were.”
Ella mira a Colleen.
“Is she lying?”
Colleen said nothing, and Sarah’s face immediately changed.
“Ms. Colleen?”
Todavía tess.
Entonces Adrian apareció en el otro extremo del pasillo.
He stopped when he saw me.
For the first time that day, he looked terrified.
– Meredith.
Me di la vuelta a él.
– Por fin recordaste mi nombre.
Sarah da un paso adelante. “Por favor, dime que está mintiendo”.
Adrian mira a su madre.
Entonces Julian.
Nadie le ayuda.
“Sarah, puedo explicarlo”.
Ella lo abofeteó.
The sound echoed through the hallway. Guests began standing inside the ceremony room.
Adrian touched his cheek.
“Sarah.”
“You told me that she knew about everything.”
I froze.
Adrian looked at her sharply.
Sarah empezó a llorar.
– Dijiste Meredith que querías salir. Dijiste que el funeral era un desastre legal que tu familia no detuvo”.
Lo miré.
Él también tenía que estar en ella.
