Adrian había dejado todo eso.
Now he was 20 minutes away from marrying someone else.
I washed the mascara from under my eyes and walked out of the restroom.
My assistant, Kendra, found me near the service hallway.
She frowned when she saw my face.
“¿Qué pasó?”
“I need you to do something for me.”
– Cualquier cosa.
“Stay with the flowers. Don’t let anyone move the arrangements.”
She studied me.
“Meredith, you’re scaring me.”
“I know.”
“Should I call someone to come help us?”
“Not yet.”
I walked toward the ceremony space.
Guests were already taking their seats.
No reconocí a casi nadie.
That hurt more than I expected.
Adrian had built an entire life around whatever he had done, and somehow I had been removed from it completely.
Then I saw Julian.
Estaba de pie cerca de la fila de atrás.
Por un momento, el alivio me cubrió.
Julian could explain this.
Crucé la habitación rápidamente.
“Julian”.
Se volvió.
The color drained from his face.
That was all the answer I needed.
– Tú lo sabías.
His eyes shifted toward the hallway.
“Meredith, please. This isn’t the place to do…”
“You knew he was alive.”
“Mantén la voz baja”.
Una vez me reí.
It sounded ugly.
“I stood beside your family at his funeral.”
Julian rubbed his forehead.
“Please. Let me explain after the ceremony.”
“The ceremony?”
Bajó la voz hasta que fue audible.
“Es un complicado”.
“No. Lo complicado es cambiar la fecha de una boda. Complicado es descubrir que tu prometido te engañó. Esto es otra cosa”.
Unas cuantas miradas.
Julian stepped closer.
“Adrian was going to tell you.”
“When?”
He didn’t answer.
Sentí que algo dentro de mí se asentaba.
The grief was still there, but another feeling had moved beside it.
Clarity.
“Who’s the bride?”
Julian looked away.
“Her name is Sarah.”
“¿Cuánto tiempo?”
